Q. What is a Dental Implant?
A. A Dental Implant is a small titanium screw that serves as the replacement for the root portion of a missing natural tooth. Dental implants can be placed in either the upper or lower jaws. Due to the biocompatible properties of titanium, a Dental Implant fuses with the bone and becomes a good anchor for the replacement tooth. Dental Implants can be used in solutions for replacing single or multiple missing teeth.
Q. Why choose Dental Implant?
A. There are a number of reasons why you should consider a Dental Implant. Without the root structure of a natural tooth present, the jawbone can shrink. This shrinkage will make your face look older than it is. There are no loose parts to worry about losing. The Dental Implant is stable and comfortable. No adjustment is needed after placement and should stay in place for life.
Q. How much do Dental Implants cost?
A. The fee for tooth replacement with Dental Implants depends on several factors, including the number of teeth being replaced and the number of Dental Implants required to support your replacement teeth. During your initial consultation, a complete dental treatment plan will be tailored specifically for you. It is important to remember though that a Dental Implant is an investment in your health and appearance. They can be expected to last from twenty years to life.
Q. Will Dental Implants work for me?
A. Anyone missing one or more teeth due to injury, disease or tooth decay may be a candidate for Dental Implants. The determining factor is the amount of available bone. We can easily evaluate whether Dental Implants are a viable solution for you.
Q. How will Dental Implants affect my life?
A. Dental Implant-supported replacement teeth look, feel and function like natural teeth. This means that you can eat and drink whatever you choose. But most importantly, Dental Implants often improve quality of life in a very concrete way. People who have felt embarrassed and worried because of their tooth problems are often overwhelmed by what new permanent teeth can do for their self-esteem.
Q. Will my new teeth look natural?
A. When Dental Implants are used in combination with modern restorative dentistry, their appearance, comfort and function are very likely to exceed your expectations. Often they are hard to tell apart from your natural teeth.
Q. Will I be able to chew with the same force and pressure I use with my natural teeth?
A. Yes. Following a brief adaptation period, chewing capacity is comparable to that of natural teeth.
Q. How soon can I have my new teeth?
A. Your Dental Implants need to bond (integrate) with the bone after they have been put in. This takes at least 3 months in the lower jaw and 6 months in the upper jaw. In certain circumstances artificial teeth may be able to be attached much sooner than this.
Q. Am I too young or too old for Dental Implants?
A. Dental Implant patients may be in their late teens or be mature adults in their seventies or eighties. Good health coupled with adequate bone support at the Implant site, are the most critical components of treatment.
Q. How do I clean around the Dental Implant?
A. You will definitely need to clean daily around the Implants. Brushing as well as flossing are of great importance. There may be the need for a prescription mouth rinse which can further help you keep your Implants healthy. Electric toothbrushes can also be helpful for cleaning around Implants. Other cleaning aids may be recommended during your consultation
