What are Dental Implants?

Dental Implants are the next best thing to having a natural tooth.

A Dental Implant is a small titanium screw which is surgically placed into the upper or lower jaw bone. It serves as the replacement for the root portion of a missing natural tooth. The bone quickly grows around the Dental Implant attaching itself to the rough outer surface. Once the Implant has been anchored by the bone, the Implant is prepared to accept the natural looking prosthetic tooth / teeth. A Crown, Bridge or stabilized Denture can then be fastened permanently into place.

Since replacement teeth must be carefully constructed to match the opposing tooth and ensure a correct bite, several impressions of the teeth are taken and sent to a lab which will construct the prosthetics. Sometimes, more than one Implant is required to replace the missing teeth.

Dental Implants are:

Aesthetically Pleasing – they look like real teeth.

Functional – they act and feel like real teeth.

Beneficial to your Diet - you can eat and chew again without pain or irritation. Foods that were forbidden are now back in the diet!

Eliminate distasteful adhesives – There is no longer a need to use “glue” when your prosthesis is anchored to implants.

Enjoy Your Favourite Foods – Implants can actually allow for the improved enjoyment of the textures and flavours of your favourite foods. With less plastic covering the roof of your mouth, you can enjoy natural flavours and sensations again.

Maintain Bone Structure – Implants can help maintain your bone structure and support your facial tissues. They can reduce or eliminate bone atrophy, which causes “shrinkage” or facial cosmetic changes.
